Around the World in 80 Plates: Sri Lanka

Captain Create has a really fast hot air balloon! He is in Sri Lanka today eating dal with a new friend, Lal! You never know who you will meet when you are traveling.

Dal is a delicious part of any Sri Lankan meal, and every family has their own recipe they like to make. I am not sure if it is spelled Dal, Daal, Dhal, or Dahl… but anyway to spell it, it tastes good!

Sri Lanka is a small island in the Indian Ocean with a tropical climate, big beaches, and tall mountains. They have unique creatures like elephants, leopards, Sambar and spotted deer, water buffalo, and a few types of monkeys living on their island, and those animals are easier to see if you visit one of Sri Lanka’s National Parks. They also have lots of exciting sea life nearby, including blue whales, sea turtles, and a lot of different fish. You can go hiking, or swim in the ocean, or just have tea with your friends. Kids in Sri Lanka have a lot of fun things to go outside and do, and lots of good food to eat too!

Lal owns a bed and breakfast with his family in Sri Lanka, so he gets to help cook all the wonderful foods Sri Lanka has to offer, but dal is his favorite. He also lives in Utah, USA and has a food truck to help share his favorites with people in the USA that may not have a change to go visit him at the bed and breakfast (after all, it is all the way around the world!).

Should we try out Lal’s Dal?
