Winter is just around the corner! Even though we love holidays and snowmen, fresh fruits and vegetables can be harder to come by during this season. Incorporating frozen fruits and vegetables into our meals is one way we can get enough of these food groups through the winter months. One of my favorite frozen fruits are berries. Berries are a delicious fruit! They can be sweet or tart. Berries are some of the first fruits to ripen in the spring and some of the last to ripen before fall. The definition of a berry is complicated, but many experts say fruits like bananas, grapes, and kiwi are all considered to be “berries!”

Berries are a great source of vitamins and antioxidants! One serving of strawberries contains nearly all of the vitamin C you need in a day! Berries also are full of fiber which keeps you full and satisfied.
The bright colors found in berries come from flavonoids. Flavonoids help protect us from diseases like cancer and heart disease. Berries also help our brain stay healthy. Berries may help us learn and remember things better!
