People make a big deal about the importance of milk in a kid’s diet and for a good reason! You’ve probably seen the “Got Milk?” ads or you might have noticed how milk is always served at school lunches. The reason for all this is because milk is good for you!

Milk has been around as long a cows have been around, in other words, milk has been around for a very long time. In ancient Egypt, only royalty and other wealthy people were allowed to drink milk and other dairy foods.
Cow’s milk is the most accessible and easy to process but that doesn’t mean cows are the only animal whose milk people have tried drinking/using. People also use goat, sheep, buffalo, yak, and other animal’s milk for drinking or making into other dairy products. Have you ever tried milk from an animal that wasn’t a cow?

It’s likely that you know somebody with a milk allergy or lactose intolerance. Oftentimes people who can’t drink milk, or prefer not too, will drink milk alternatives. Common milk alternatives are soy milk, almond milk, rice milk, and coconut milk.
The image below might be a little confusing but if you look at the vitamins and minerals section you can see that cows milk has the most naturally occurring vitamins and minerals. If you can’t drink cow’s milk, soy milk is suggested as the next best option because it has next best nutrient profile!
